What is this Project? What can you gain from participating in it?
We are looking for participants to join our Bone Basics Project in rural towns around Tasmania through 2025-26. Take this opportunity to learn, get tested, and take charge of your bone health with guidance and support every step of the way.
The Project provides opportunity to:
- Learn more about osteoporosis – its prevention, diagnosis and management,
- Identify your personal risk factors of osteoporosis and ways to minimise the risk,
- Enjoy a free personalised 20-minute Chat & Check session within your local community, 1:1 review.
- Provide you with an indication of your bone density using our mobile ultrasound heel scan.
- Take knowledge quizzes at the beginning and end of the Project,
- Attend a Taking Charge of Osteoporosis session filled with valuable information and practical tips.
- Receive free information and resource packs that include a DVD, self-management guides, nutritional samples, and details about exercise classes designed to support your bone health.
- Create your own Personal Action Plan to help you make positive changes and live a bone healthy lifestyle.
- See what you can do to live well with osteoporosis and support others with osteoporosis.
- Be invited to join AOTAS for ongoing support and access to strength and warm water exercise classes to keep your bones strong.

Cost: Free to all Eligible participants. This Project is delivered by Arthritis & Osteoporosis Tasmania and funded by the Healthy Tasmania Fund, an initiative of the Tasmanian Government. It aims to promote the importance of healthy bones and osteoporosis prevention through education and awareness.
Eligibility to Participate:
People over 50 years of age, residents of rural communities. Locations will be determined once sufficient Expression of Interest within an area is established. Generally, rural locations will be defined as locations that are approximately 30 minutes travel out of Hobart, Launceston and Devonport CBDs where full body DEXA machines are located.
