Keep your hands moving

Therapy Putty for RA

Hand exercises can be helpful for people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). They can increase flexibility, range of motion, dexterity, and grip strength. One tool occupational therapists often use with RA patients is therapy putty. This article explains why.

Researchers across England split 500 RA patients into groups, one that received an exercise program for the hands and arms done with a therapist and at home, and another that received the usual care. Overall hand function improved more in the exercise group, as the scientists reported in March 2015 in Health Technology Assessment.
